St. Gregory's University announced the hiring of Katrina English as its new volleyball coach in February 2012. English came to St. Gregory's from Lamar High School in Houston where she led the Redskins to playoff appearances in each of her three seasons as head coach. She has nearly 10 years of coaching experience.
"I am ecstatic about the opportunity to coach at St. Gregory's, and I look forward to working with the young ladies here to develop a competitive program," English said. "My coaching philosophy is to instill in my student-athletes the desire to grow mentally, physically, and spiritually so they have the integrity and ability to make a positive impact on society."
Prior to her time at Lamar High School, English had coaching stints at Rockdale High School in Rockdale, Texas, Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York, Lyndon B. Johnson High School in Austin, Texas, and Giddings High School in Giddings, Texas. She has coached numerous all-district and academic all-conference players.
An accomplished player herself, English was a three-year starter at Houston Baptist University where she earned all-region honors each year and helped lead the squad to a national runner-up finish in the NAIA Tournament in 2002. She was a three-year captain at HBU and was named Defensive Player of the Year her senior season. Prior to Houston Baptist, the outside hitter played one year at Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas.
English earned a bachelor's degree in English and psychology from Houston Baptist in 2005. She is the founder of the Walk By Faith Volleyball Club, which teaches female athletes ages 13-18 the skills and mentality needed to become competitive and successful volleyball players.
