IRVINE, Calif. – St. Gregory's extended its season in dramatic fashion Tuesday afternoon at the NAIA Softball Championship Opening Round Tournament, defeating Bethany (Kan.) 2-1 on a walk-off bunt single in extra innings.

With two outs and runners on second and third in the bottom of the ninth, Jordan Walters laid down a perfect squeeze bunt in front of the plate and then beat the throw to first. That brought home Caitlin O'Hagan from third with the winning run.

The Cavaliers (35-16) move on to play the College of Idaho at 5:30 p.m. (CST) Tuesday in another elimination game. The Lady Yotes defeated SGU 2-0 on Monday in the first game of the tournament.

Bethany got on the board first, scoring a run on Jasmine Zaker's two-out RBI single down the left-field line.

Cavalier starter Devon Frazier would settle down after that, retiring 13 of the next 16 Swedes she faced. The junior right-hander worked out of a jam in the seventh, stranding runners on second and third after giving up a single and a walk to start the frame. In all, Bethany left 10 on base for the game.

Still down 1-0 and down to its last at-bat, SGU finally got its offense going. After O'Hagan singled to lead off the inning, she was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Cortney Dodson then came through with a game-tying double into the gap in left-center, sending the game to extra innings.

Dodson finished the game with two hits – one in the seventh and one in the ninth that extended the inning and set the stage for Walters' bunt.

Frazier (21-7) worked all nine innings, scattering nine hits with three strike outs and a walk.
