HUTCHINSON, Kan.- On Friday night, the Cavaliers competed at the Hutchinson Twilight race to open their season. The Hutchinson Twilight is a very unique race because it is a night race taking place under the lights. Sophia Weisbruch (JR/Temple, Texas) led all Cavs in the three mile race, by finishing in 20:21.74, and Alexas Vargas (SO/Terrell, Texas) finished only 24 seconds behind Weisbruch. Kathleen Joyce (SO/Edmond, Okla.) finished the race in 20:52.63, and Teagan Dreyer (SR/OKMULGEE, OK) finished in 21:50.69. Maria Rodriguez (FR/Ft. Worth, TX) finished in 25:27.91. St. Gregory's finished in sixth place out of ten teams at the meet.
When I asked Coach Chris Creal about the race he said, "We went into this meet with the intention of seeing where we are with our fitness as well as to test ourselves as a team; which I think these ladies did a great job, excelling our expectations."
"Our ladies did a great job working off each other and making sure the gaps between each other were as little as possible. This team work is what allowed each member to walk away with a personal best in the 3 mile race."
The Cavaliers will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 16, when they race at the MSSU Stampede in Joplin, MO.
