OKLAHOMA CITY- The Cavaliers (32-21, 13-10 SAC) stayed alive with their 10-3 win over MACU (22-33, 10-13 SAC) in an elimination game on Saturday afternoon at OCU. The Evangles are now knocked out of the tournament after losing their second game, and the Cavs will move forward to face No. 1 OCU on Sun., May 7 at 2 PM.
St. Gregory's grabbed an early lead by scoring one run in the top of the first inning, and then added two more in the second for a 3-0 lead. The Evangeled answered with two runs in the bottom of the third inning, and the game stayed 3-2 until the fifth inning, when the Cavs scored three more runs. SGU added four more insurance runs in the top of the seventh. MACU score one run in the eighth inning, but it was much too little, too late for the No. 5 seed.
Mychal Yarbor (JR/Bandon, Ore.) picked up his ninth win of the season, as he went 7 innings, allowing just two runs, three hits, and he struck out 7 batters. Troy Little (SO/Broken Arrow, Okla.) and Tyler Hebert (JR/Huffman, Texas) combined to pitch the last two innings of the game for the No. 4 seed Cavaliers.
Brandon Marerro (JR/Carolina, Puerto Rico) had a huge game at the plate by collecting two hits, one of which was a homerun, and he finished with 6 RBI's. Adrian Soltero (SR/Oklahoma City, Okla.) went 2-4 iwth one RBI, and Jordan Martin (SR/Moore, Okla.) also added two hits to go with two RBI's in the win. Layton Moore (SO/Jones, Okla.) and Armando Fajardo (JR/San Mateo, Calif.) each had one hit and two runs scored. Ryan Lujan-Leonard (JR/Moore, Okla.) and Connor McCoy (JR/Highland, Calif.) combined to record the other two hits for St. Gregory's.
If the Cavs win against No. 1 OCU on Sunday, May 7, they will move on to face the winner of USAO vs. Texas Wesleyan, to play for the SAC Championship.
