ALEXANDRIA- St. Gregory's (1-1) opened their season in Alexandria, La. against Lyon College (Ark.) in game one, and against LSU-Alexandria in game two. The Cavaliers beat Lyon College (0-2) 13-1, and they lost to No.22 LSUA (4-2) 6-0.
The Cavs started the seaon red hot, and scored 5 runs in the top of the first and scored 5 more runs again in the top of the second inning. They scored one in the third, two in the fourth, and they were held scoreless in the fifth and final inning, due to run rule. Chula Chavez (JR/Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) was the starting pitcher for the Cavaliers and she picked up her first win of the season. She pitched three scoreless innings, and only allowed one hit. Kasady Uhr (SO/Yukon, Okla.) pitched the final two innings for SGU and only allowed one run on three hits.
Offensively, St. Gregory's was led by Sutv Meely (SR/Tecumseh, Okla.)'s perfect 4 for 4, in game one, at the dish. Meely was just a homer shy of hitting for the cycle. Lauren Miller (JR/Blanchard, Okla.) went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's, and Jessica Nelson (JR/Lewisville, Texas) and Dani Nissen (JR/Oklahoma City, Okla.) each had two hits and two RBI's a piece. Bryn Houlton (JR/Savanna, Okla.) had a hit and knocked two runs in. Janely Cruz (SO/Grand Prairie, Texas) and Bryanne Knox (SR/Dickson, Okla.) had one hit a piece.
In the Cavaliers' second game of the day, they faced No. 22 LSU-Alexandria on their home turf. LSUA scored 2 runs in the second, third, fifth innings, and held the Cavs scoreless. Bryn Houlton was the starting pitcher for SGU, and she picked up her first loss of the season. She pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed 5 runs. Chula Chavez allowed just one run, in her 1 2/3 innings of relief.
Dani Billings hit two home runs in the game for the Generals, and drove in three runs.
Tomorrow St. Gregory's will take on William Carey University at noon, and then they play No. 22 LSU-Alexandria again at 2 PM.
