CHICKASHA- On Thursday night the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (9-10, 7-4 SAC) and St. Gregory's University (2-16, 0-11) were in a tight battle for the first quarter of the game, but in the second quarter, the Drover's began to pull away. The first quarter ended with the Drover's only leading 20-18. However, in the second quarter USAO started to heat up, and they out-scored the Cavs 23-9, to take a 43-27 lead into halftime.
In the first half, USAO was led by Shaylynn Bass' 11 points and 6 rebounds, and the Cavs were led by Shanques Garrett (SR/Tulsa, Okla.)'s 8 points.
SGU shot 48 percent from the field in the first half, but they turned the ball over 15 times. The Drovers had 11 steals, 10 assists, and out-rebounded the Cavs 26-14 in the first half.
The second half was played pretty close, but the Drovers would end up with the 83-60 victory over the Cavs. USAO outscored SGU 26-20 in the third, and then only 14-13 in the fourth. The Cavaliers offense in the second half took much better care of the ball in the second half, and only committed 7 second half turnovers, but they weren't shooting for the same high percentage that they were shooting in the first half. The Cavs finished the game only shooting 35.5 percent from the field, and only 21.4 percent from 3 point range.
Kylee Tatum (SR/Bethel, Okla.) led the Cavaliers in scoring with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Shanques Garrett performed very strong with 15 points and 7 rebounds, and Lauren Godbold (FR/Arlington, Texas) scored 13 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.
Two Drovers recorded a double-double on the night. Dierra Ely led the Drovers offensively with 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Shaylynn Bass scored 12 points and had 11 rebounds. Darian Hill scored 15 points with 5 rebounds. Rebecca Worthy scored 9 points, and Lauren Hart scored 8 points.
The Cavaliers will return home to take on Southwestern Christian University on Saturday at 3 PM.
