SHAWNEE- Kylee Tatum (SR/Bethel, Okla.) reached the 1,000 career points milestone just before the first half expired in a 75-65 loss to Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Texas). Tatum was the second leading scorer for the Cavaliers on the night, and Lauren Godbold (FR/Arlington, Texas) finished with 18 points.
SAGU (8-3, 1-1 SAC) was led by Charity McAfee's 11 for 15 shooting from the field, for 29 points, and 13 rebounds. Kayla Blise and Lexi Rich both finished with 12 points for the Lions.
SAGU jumped to an early lead in the first quarter, but the Cavaliers came fighting back in the second to make it only a four point deficit at the half. Chairty Page led the way for the Lions in the second half, by scoring 20 of her 29 points. SGU came out with energy for the third quarter and gained a five point lead, which was fueled by Godbold's 10 points in the 10 minute span. However, in the fourth, the Lions came back and played dominant defense that held the Cavaliers to just 13 points in the final quarter. SAGU shot 54 percent from beyond the arch in the contest, and held SGU to 28 perfect from three point range.
The Cavaliers (2-8, 0-3 SAC) will travel to Mid-America Christian University on Saturday, January 7 to face the Evangels at 3 p.m.
