WINFIELD, Kan. – Southwestern (Kan.) led from wire to wire in a 105-47 victory over St. Gregory's Tuesday night at Stewart Field House. The Moundbuilders evened their record at 1-1, while the Cavaliers dropped their season opener.
Southwestern opened the game with a 9-2 run and never looked back, holding SGU to only 14 percent from the field for the game. The 'Builders led by 18 after one quarter and nearly doubled their advantage to 59-26 at halftime.
The home team was 8 of 13 from three-point range in the opening 20 minutes and shot 56 percent overall. That momentum carried into the second half where Southwestern increased its lead to as many as 61.
The 'Builders had five players in double figures, led by Jordyn Miller's 24 points on 10 of 19 shooting. The Cavaliers got a team-best 15 points and seven rebounds from Kylee Tatum. Sara Hamilton also hit double figures with 10 points in 24 minutes.
St. Gregory's hosts Randall in its home opener Saturday. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Sumner Field House.
