SHAWNEE – St. Gregory's broke open a scoreless game with a pair of second-half strikes, dropping Jarvis Christian (Texas), 2-0, Thursday afternoon at Fr. Victor Roberts Field. The Cavaliers won their third straight contest, improving to 2-0 all-time against the Bulldogs.
SGU (4-2) controlled the possession throughout and had an 11-2 shot advantage at intermission. But the home team didn't scratch the scoreboard until the 71st minute.
That's when Abi Housecroft found Araceli Flores to break the deadlock. Just 54 seconds later, the Cavs delivered what proved to be the knockout punch when Beth McHale scored off a free kick from the right side.
Flores, who now has seven goals this season, has scored in five of SGU's six contests. McHale, meanwhile, has netted four scores after entering this year without a goal.
St. Gregory's hosts McPherson (Kan.) Saturday. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Fr. Victor Roberts Field.
