SHAWNEE – A pair of first-half goals propelled St. Gregory's to a 2-0 blanking of Central Christian (Kan.) Tuesday afternoon at Fr. Victor Roberts Field. The win snapped a two-game skid for the Cavaliers, who won their first-ever meeting with the Tigers.

SGU (2-2) was victorious despite being outshot, 16-5. The home team made the most of its opportunities, however.

Senior Abi Housecroft snapped a scoreless tie in the 40th minute, taking a pass from Peta McKenna and depositing it in the top-left corner of the net. Beth McHale, who came in with goals in two of her team's three games, dialed long distance just three minutes later – firing a bullet over the head of CCC keeper Goldie Bougher from 45 yards out.

That lead held throughout the final 45 minutes as SGU fended off 11 second-half shots. Jena Flewelling and Mallory Adams combined for the shutout. Each had three saves in goal.

St. Gregory's travels to Bethel (Kan.) Wednesday. Game time is set for 4 p.m. in North Newton, Kan.
