SHAWNEE – A second-half surge propelled Wiley (Texas) to a 3-1 win over St. Gregory's Friday afternoon at Fr. Victor Roberts Field. The Lady Wildcats improved to 1-0, while the Cavaliers dropped to 1-2.

After the teams battled to a 1-1 deadlock through 45 minutes, Wiley controlled the possession in the second half. The visitors outshot the home team, 10-1, in the final frame.

Janaine Das Neves booted her second goal of the game in the 70th minute to break the tie, and Ana Maldonado finished it off 13 minutes later – converting a failed clear by SGU.

Araceli Flores scored for the third straight game to begin the season, finishing a goal with a flip over the keeper's head in the 31st minute. She was assisted by Abi Housecroft on the play. Flores led SGU with three shots – all on goal.

Jena Flewelling gave up a pair of goals and turned away two others in just more than 70 minutes of work.

St. Gregory's resumes play Tuesday at home against Central Christian (Kan.). Game time is set for 3 p.m. at Fr. Victor Roberts Field.
