Tuesday afternoon the Cavalier softball team traveled to Bacone University for a non-conference double header. In game 1 the Cavaliers collected 19 hits defeating the Warriors 14-1 in five innings.
The Cavaliers jumped on the Warriors right from the start as senior Blair Ward connected on a a lead-off double to start the game and then was driven in by a sacrifice fly two batters later by fellow senior Emily Ledinski. The Cavaliers scored three more runs in the inning. The Cavaliers would better their output the next two innings by scoring five runs in the second and third innings.
The Cavaliers must have rested for their second game during the fourth and fifth innings because they did not score in either inning.
St. Gregory's bats were hot as they connected on six extra base hits, led by senior Kristen Wehmeyer's third inning home run. This was Wehmeyer's second home run of the young season.
Caitlin O'Hagan had three hits in four at bats, drove in three runs and scored two of her own.
Allison Conyers also had three hits and two RBI's along with scoring two runs. Conyers also pitched two innings, giving up only one run off of two hits.
Hay Lea Harper was perfect at the plate going two for two, scoring two runs.
In the circle, the Cavaliers dominated the Warriors, allowing the home team only two hits and one run. Along with Conyers, Devon Frazier pitched the final three innings securing the victory for the Cavs.
